PONS is Labels of Spain chosen brand of Avarcas or Menorquinas, the traditional sandals from Menorca and one of the most representative footwear of the Mediterranean summer.

Made since 1945 on the Spanish island of Menorca, PONS shoes are ethically made by hand with sustainability and longevity in mind. The raw materials are all sourced locally in Spain, including the rubber sole (the classic style features a sole made from 10% recycled tires) and the high-quality natural vecchio leather— which is sourced from ethically raised livestock. Pons are chrome dyed to strict EU REACH standards.

The Pons workshop in the Ciutadella village is owned and operated by the third generation of shoemakers, continuing the family saga dedicated to the manufacture of footwear. Bep Pons Allés was the founder of the company in 1945, together with his brother-in-law José Camps Sastre. With the original name of Calzados Juma, they began marketing quality leather slippers, alternating with models of women's shoes, until reaching the manufacturing of the typical Menorcan sandals. Always manufacturing from Menorca, Avarca Pons has become one of the main companies in the sector and is currently present in many countries around the world.

The Consell Insular de Menorca ( local Menorca Goverment) in order to protect avarcas handcrafted in Menorca by local artisans have developed this logo " Avarca de Menorca"  that ensure highest quality standard of materials and craftsmanship made by  local artisans from Menorca. Protecting and preserving this way centuries of tradition in the island of Menorca. 

This ensures the highest quality standards and the authenticity of the avarcas sandal while preserving and protecting the artisans and tradition of the island.

Nowadays, due to its popularity, some manufacturers have come up with many fake imitations that are far from the authentic, artisan and top quality measures and materials used in the genuine avarcas.

 

 

José Luis Iturriaga and his wife Esmeralda, who both started what was once a small handmade espadrilles workshop in Arnedo (La Rioja, Spain) in 1978, are the main names behind Gaimo brand.
“I understood the value of the craftsmanship tradition of the region, but I also knew that with innovative technologies we could aspire to manufacture a top-quality product that joined the best from both worlds”,- José Luis Iturriaga-, Founder of Gaimo shoes.

Today, José Luis’ four daughters run the company by his side and still from their factory in Arnedo.

The combination of vanguard and tradition that Gaimo espadrilles carries along, can be found around the world, and now for the first time in Hong Kong.
